Hey folks If the price is right I'd like to put a winch on the Raider while I'm dumping all this money into it anyway.

I pretty much can only afford a "cheap" winch or a used one. Thus far the best deal I have found on either is: this. Thanks.

I'm only saying "do a search" because a) I don't know the details and b) I don't think its on 4x4wire.com... but HarborFreight.com has some winches that are decent, and some that aren't. There's reviews online about them. There's one that is actually pretty decent if I remember right, but I don't know which one. You might also look for a used one. A local 4x4 board member (reno4x4.com) was selling a 8K winch for $100 recently, needed minor work. So, its possible to get one used, cheap. If you have local wheelers clubs etc, check out their forums if they have them.

Best of luck!

EDIT: Here, this should get you started:

The 12k winch at HF is cheap. I don't have any practical experience with but......

I have 10k HF winch that has worked great. I've had it for about three years. It gets used regularly to pull myself or a wheeling buddy out.

I finally cooked it about two months ago on really hard pull. Buddies truck sitting on frames. I was front of him and had run winch cable through two blocks and pull him backwards. We did enough winching to completely drain the battery. (Lesson learned - rev up engine when winching)

What happened is one of the magnets in the winch motor exploded. I called HF and got a replacement motor for $110. When it showed the motor casing was chipped. HF sent a replacement motor free of charge, no questions asked which it is sitting in the garage. Rebuilt winch with chipped motor and have used it a couple time with no problem.

Don't have any experience with THIS winch, but reviews are good. I'm thinking about getting one.

Need a Spot
From everything I've read the Badlands winches from HF are pretty good bang for the $$$. Hell you can get the 12k for $319.
