food for thought...
Previous owner cleans T.B. and thereby replacing gasket,,,
...(the wrong gasket ,as the right one has been superceded by the wrong gasket no matter where you buy it, except a Mitsu. dealer)....
It has bad vacuum leak high idle and leads previuos owner to replace ICS.
In frustration he sells Raider to you with the wrong advice...
You replace T.B. and get a gasket from "anywhere but dealer" and it is not the right gasket ,,,and the gasket leaks causing high idle....... ................
.
May I ask where did you get your T.B. gasket and what was the part number of the gasket???????

Dav, actually I used the old gasket that was from the throttle body I took off.

Do you know where I can get the right Gasket from? Or what the correct part number is so I can go find one?

I would love for the problem to be a gasket!

How do I reset the Timing with the ground wire, if you don't mind explaining.

The dealer is the only place to get the right gasket.
See my "gasket" thread.
You can cut one with a razor out of gasket material.
If you used the gasket that came with the OLD trottle body you bought, """chances""" are you ""might"" have the right gasket.
.
I'm sorry I don't have the ability to post a picture of the 2 T.B. gaskets side by side so everybody can see what I'm talking about, and how bad a vacuum leak would be with the gasket 'They All' will sell you nowadays...
.
Timing set: there is a plastic plug with a cover on it mounted above you brake vacuum booster on the firewall. One wire-- yellow/white with black sripe(as I recall)-- goes into that plug. You connect a grounging wire(a wire with alligator clips)to the one terminal found inside that plug.
When you connect it your engine idle speed will drop noticably,,,and that's when your use the timing light and turn the distributor to adjust timing.
But,,,If you have a high idle cause by vacuum leak, cause ECU won't default idle to properly for accurate timing set because it's "confused"....

Hey Dav, I went and took off the throttle body so I could take some photo's and show you what the gasket looks like.

I took off the other piece between the Throttle Body and the Intake Manifold and cut a new Gasket for it. Let me know if it looks ok...I'm planning on using Gasket Sealant on it and was wondering if I should use Gasket sealant on the thin rubber Gasket with the three lumps on it( in the first pictures)...

I know I'm a total rookie so please bare with all my questions.

Got the Throttle Body back on and still got a high idle. At this point I'm desperately looking for advise on what I should do next.

I'm going to get a timing light and an alligator clip and see what I can figure out on the timing as soon as I can.

Thanks again for everyones time and opinions!

Have you you considered the possibility that it could be the ECU?

Geo, I was thinking in the back of my mind that it could be the ECU but with my lack of experience, I really have no clue. I just went and watched a few youtube video's on timing lights and how to adjust the timing with the distributor, but its all kinda overwhelming.

I'm determined to get this thing on the road! And to answer the question about loosing coolant... I haven't had a chance to get it on the road to really see what the coolant is doing, but it seems to be holding just fine.

How would I go about diagnosing the ECU? And do you think the timing belt could be off a tooth? Thanks!
