How hard is it? Should I just take it in and have someone do it for me or is it something I can do at home?

I haven't done it yet. I won't say it's easy. But I don't think it will be extremely difficult. You will need a coil spring compressor (you can borrow one for free via Kragen/O'Reilly Auto Parts). You have one bolt on the top at the strut mount. And you have 4 bolts that go through the two fork-halves and the lower-end of the shock (I think it's 4 bolts). Get the hardware loose and compress the spring so there's no tension. Remove the shock & coil, then transfer the coil to the new shock body (should be able to keep the coil spring compressed). Bolt it all back together and remove the spring compressor. But... if you are thinking about doing a suspension lift using the UPYOURKIA kit, that would be the perfect time to do it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

the coil compressor can make the job EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

What I have done was to make all the job BUT i took the spring-shok assy to a shop with a hudrolic compressor to make the exchange.

I did it once.....and only once lol. Used a coil compressor, well tried to but there isn't any room around the coil to fit one in reliably. Took me hours per side. Then again it was my first time <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Spring compressors are good, but truth be told, I didn't use them the second time on my car, I left it on the ground, unbolted the strut from the TOP, slowly jacked up the car, and then the springs came right out. put jack stands under the car, then unbolt the lower bolts from the strut and you're good to go!

But please, BE CAREFUL doing it either way!!!
