Any mitsu Montero or Montero sport axle will work so long as the gear ratio is close (within 10% iirc but someone needs to confirm that) and its a coil sprung model.

The 94-96 (maybe also 97) SR with the rear locker are preferred because they have the larger 9.5" rear ring and pinion with the locking diff, the disk brakes, and the 4.6x:1 gear ratio which is the same or close enough to the orig gen 1 v6 ring and pinion gears.

Sorry to correct you Ray, but 97 has the 4.27 gear ratio
