Thanks for reading the FAQ and searching prior posts.

Any mitsu Montero or Montero sport axle will work so long as the gear ratio is close (within 10% iirc but someone needs to confirm that) and its a coil sprung model.

The 94-96 (maybe also 97) SR with the rear locker are preferred because they have the larger 9.5" rear ring and pinion with the locking diff, the disk brakes, and the 4.6x:1 gear ratio which is the same or close enough to the orig gen 1 v6 ring and pinion gears.

Also to correct..."any montero sport" axle will not work as a bolt in, and actually none will.

Also, you don't want to use a 94 or early year 95 as they have a larger pinion flange and require drive shaft modifications to fit.

If the donor is a 95 then you need to measure the pinion flange to be safe. 96 and you should be good to go. Stay away from 97 due to the 4.2 gears like chief said.

We need to be a little more responsible with the info passed here. It could cost someone some unnecessarry expenses.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
