I've finally found two 96 SR axles online. Unfortunately neither comes with the brakes, trailing arms or air pump. Am I wrong to assume that the trailing arms and brakes from a 95 (non SR) will bolt up?
Are the air pumps readily available or can I go aftermarket?

Don't know on the trailing arms. Pull a copy of caps and see if the part #'s are the same.
On the compressor, you'll need a compressor, a pressure switch set to about 2psi, and a release valve. I'm not dead sure of the pressure, so you ought to get somebody who has one pull the pressure line and put a gauge on it and trigger the switch. The stock unit has and internal pressure switch and a release valve.

Are the air pumps readily available or can I go aftermarket? Trailing arms yes. Brakes probably. Strongly recommend you go with factory pump. Way simpler, and Too much pressure and you will blow out the diapragm.

Thanks Guys. BTW - What is CAPS. I searched it and found lots of references. Where can i get a copy or access. Very dumb question but if it will stop me from asking more....
So what is a fair price for a rear assy without the extras I'd normally find if I pulled it myself?

So what is a fair price for a rear assy without the extras I'd normally find if I pulled it myself? You want the Mitsubishi ASA program. See mitsubishilinks.com. You need to be running Windows to use it. I assume you may be able to run it if you have a virtual windows partition on a Mac but I'm not 100% sure about that... Essentially it's the parts program used by the mitsu dealership to look up the right part number. You need the VIN for the vehicle you're looking up part numbers for. Also has nice exploded diagrams of most assemblies to help you ensure it's the correct pat number. Also I dont recall if there is anything there for thea xle but check out the Specialized Part Number Repository thread just in case. It's noted in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum.

go figure - i'm running a mac. my last mac was partitioned so i could run windows, after 3 years of barely using it i didn't partition this one.
any ideas on price for a used 96 rear axle assembly without the extras (pump, brakes, trailing arms)? they are asking $400+ s/h. seems pricey - but having never bought one...
input anyone?

Not a bad price IMHO. That's less than I paid for mine 5 years ago. But I had more money than sense then. They can be had cheaper, but if time is a factor and the supplier is reputable, I'd say get it...

It seemed high compared to some of the researched pricing for other rear ends in general. I just couldn't find anything specific about the 96 SR. And since it is a locker axle i figured the price might be justified. I'll probably order it this week. Just a few more local yards to walk through tomorrow... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
