So im new to the forum but not to the sportage world.Ive gotten so much help by reading the users post and info regarding lifting and tire size and basically every question i had i could find on here,so i decided what the hell, ill finally join. But soon my 01 sportage will be SAS.
The front axle will be a Dana 30 5x5.5 lug pattern with disc brakes, was going to use a set of 85' yota axles but the price wasnt right.Hope to get this going soon and i will try to post pics if i can figure out how to post em.
thanks for your interest,I was begining to think no one was interested in axle swapping kia's anymore.I will post progress pics.I might be a while though as the winter just started early up in Northern california and welding out in the yard in the rain doesnt sound appealing.
Welcome to the forum! It's good to know there's another tricked-out Sporty terrorizing Nor Cal. Looking forward to seeing how your build progresses. Keep us posted!!!
1997 Sportage 4x4, auto-trans, Warn manual hubs, 4" UPYOURKIA front lift, TJ 106AA rear springs, 2-5/8" body lift, 31x10.50 treads, SmittyBilt SRC front and XRC rear bumper, swing-out tire mount, OBX LSD front diff, Track Finder rear locker, 5.38 R&Ps and... really crappy gas mileage!
Be very cool to see a build thread on a Sportage SAS.
2001 Kia Sportage Warn manual hubs, 2" spacer up front, TJ 105 springs Rav4 shocks, 235/75/15 BFG A/T KOs, Skidplate back to under the T-case, trans cooler, XRC8 winch on custom bumper, Synth winch line, fuel can mount, Rigid D2 Dually overhead lights.
Ive been looking alot at there builds and style and im quite impressed with what they got, dave i believe has the most bad ass sporty rig, sorry rokia.but i just love the hard-core look of it. But im not planning on going that big, why?you might ask.well this is my daily driver and i need it to last me a long long time til im outa college.Im planning on doing a simple 3-link with coils and shocks and maybe high steer, gona see about that tho,and tires going to 33 12.50 possibly 33 10.50s tsl if other. The axle needs a quick rebuild tho before i use it.This is a budget build hence why im only doing the front axle swap and not a rear.I want it to be a strong overall for the crawling i do so good brand name parts are gonna be used for what isnt custom fabbed.
Peabody,i see you in the sac-area?Im close to there, maybe we should hit up the trails some day with our rigs.haha
Ran into a little snag,Had a someone who wanted the Dana 30 bad for there cj,so i sold it and in return also got a 83' Toyota front axle.so the kia sas is gonna change a bit, will now be using the yota axle and going to build it up to swap in the sporty,on the list is a basic 3-link still, along with Knuckle rebuild kit,TG Hy-steer,Fj40 Vented rotor swap,V6 Yota IFS caliper swap, steel braided brake lines,Pro comp shocks?relocate rear shocks similar to the dave scott setup, front wheel adapters to stay with 5x5.5 pattern, front coils?TG weld on diff armor for front and back.so I hope to get this all finished up by Feb.Gonna take my time and save up the funds and build up the axle, clean it and paint it.so right now its just words,so when this is all started i will deffently post pics.
