Getting the Wheeling Fever
Anyone know where I can DL a copy of tho owners manuel for my 94 SR montero?
If no can some one give me a walkthrough on the 4x4 system?
Im doing a dirt road that may have some issues and I read somewhere...that I cant find now that there were perticulars to the 4x4 on this, somthing about driving backward's to unlock the rear dif, and when should I use what...

this is only my 2nd 4x4... unless you dont count an 82 subrau brat... so ya, dont want to break it first time out... and yes Im buying an owners manuel when I get home...

Best place I found to get an owners manual is eBay. Mitsubishilinks is good for the factory service manuals.

There's no need to back up to unlock anything on your '94. The rear locker only functions in low range 4wd at low speed. It will unlock itself by one of the following: Hit the switch on the dash or, select high range or, exceed the speed in low range that the vehicle is programmed for. It's pretty fool-proof and tough.

You can use 4-hi/not-locked (the first detent in the transfer case shifter after 2wd) on the road without issue. That's all wheel drive with the center differential in the transfer case unlocked. Use 4-hi/locked or 4-low locked only on surfaces that allow slip, like dirt, snow, etc.

There are no locking hubs on your vehicle, unless someone added them. The front hubs are always locked, via flanges. You can therefore shift in and out of awd and two wheel drive on the fly.

Hope that helps.

To be clear, many times you have to back up to disengage 4x4, particulary if you have gone fast, wheeled hard, ect as it binds up the coupling. Honestly most modern 4x4s tend to require a short back up to escape 4x4, not due to hubs, but driveline bind. I have to do it almost every time on my Titan as an example.

Will attempt to do so in the future, but what would have been an appropriate post title?

I did read over the guidelines briefly, which particular are you referring to?

"quick primer on gen2 4wd use, please"

"how the heck do I use 94sr 4wd"

"how does active trac work"

If you can't tell what the post is about from the title, you did it wrong...

Don't sweat it too much! Good subject lines make it easier to search and find info when others are looking, and it makes forum easier and more interesting to read. Oh, and welcome
