Morning all.

I've a small problem re a rattle under my truck.
When the clutch is out, either while driving or standing still, there's a rattle under the truck.
If I depress the clutch pedal, the rattling stops.
This has slowly gotten louder over a period of a few weeks. I've looked under the truck, but can't see anything loose...
does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this rattle?

Thanks for your time

Rob.

I suppose it could be the pilot bearing, but on my 2.6L the pilot bearing was shot (as in broken, all the ball bearings at the bottom of the bellhousing) and it did not do this. What would do this is a bad throwout bearing. Either way, you are probably looking at yanking the trans and replacing the clutch disk, cover, pilot and throwout bearing. There's rarely any way around that.

The tranny imput shaft bearing is also a prime suspect. It's unloaded with the clutch depressed. Does the sound also occur when idling in neutral?

Yes, it does. It rattles at any time the clutch is out, is just harder to hear when she's moving.

Also whines in all gears but 4th, which I think is a gearbox input bearing problem - although it's been doing that for 5 years now without the new rattle...

Perhaps it's time to get that sorted.
