Replacing the radiator is probably a good idea, but if your existing radiator pressure tests and flow tests well after it's rodded, then it's probably overkill to replace it. Ask Hays about it when you pick your radiator up - the guy there has been repairing radiators for years and I was impressed by how well he knows his stuff. We took the Conquest radiator to him to have it rodded, and before we told him anything about it he asked what kind of turbo car it was out of - he could tell just by the weight and fin density that it was a higher capacity radiator.
Although I haven't really researched it myself, my understanding is that the OEM all-metal radiator is far superior to any of the cheap replacement radiators out there, and the good quality replacements are fairly pricey.

IIRC, the 2.6 carb radiator has the most capacity of all of them. It's a 3 row. Again, iirc, the starquest is a 2row, but can take the 3row core. The 3.0 is definately a 2row.
Ditto ryany on his radiator comments...

I just suggested it because of the age of these radiators and how they seem to take in very fine dirt through the overflow bottle. Johnny should be fine but i'm thinking these radiators are starting to get thin internally just from years of use.

I had my radiator rodded out when doing my rebuild. At a shop in Mesa. I had ZERO cooling issues this summer. My .02.
On the alternator front, I read on here that a guy used a 160amp bus alternator on his Gen1. Had to fab up a bracket for it to fit, but it works. I wonder if this is something we could figure out. With Toasty's fine fabricating skills of course. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I had mine rodded out with no issues for a few years, later it sprung a leak in the core. They could have pinched that off and brazed it shut, would have been fine.

Ditto ryany on his radiator comments... The radiator in the SR can take a third row, too, it's all right there, just not utilized. I should be fine with this. Lets just see what the alternator shop has to say about the beef-up... John B.

BTW, The Professor took his Gen 2.5 to Badlands park near where he now lives. He put a short video on Facebook of him driving through a puddle of mud...yeehaw.
