This has gotten even more ridiculous. I'd pretty much forgotten about the drift pin that locates the clocking of the harmonic balancer on the crank until this evening. Well, it's sheared off flush with the crank snout. And it's made of some kind of super hard steel that my unused left handed drill bits barely touch. I can't believe this...

I located a grade 8 bolt at Ace hardware that's exactly 20mm longer than the stock one. It may be too long, however. I threaded it in the crank all the way and tightened it a little with a socket, but I think there's just a bit too much bolt sticking out for it the be able to clamp the H.B. tightly. I'll go back again tomorrow to see if they have a slightly shorter one.
