Hi Guys

Recently this issue started developing with my car: 1996 SWB 3.5 equivalent to the SR in the US

while attempting to start the engine once I move the key to hit the starter motor, a Buzzing rely sort of noise is heard from the ECU on the kick panel on the passenger side. the starter would not kick in unless I back of and just hit the starter again and it would start normally.

now this issue has not yet developed into a problem, but this being the ECU I thought there might be something to do with it before it gets worse, or the ECU fries.

This issue has no pattern to is what so ever, it happens early in the morning as well as just restarting the engine at the petrol station, cold days & hot days also.

Is this a Serious issue yet? is there something to be done to fix this?

Unless I'm mistaken, all the fuel pump control stuff is there, too. Just like in the Sports (Challengers). That is almost certainly not the ECM. Sounds like the fuel control relay stuff to me.

Body Damage is Cool
Isn't there an ECU relay?

Are you ABSOLUTELY SURE the noise comes from inside? The starter is right there on the outside of the firewall and a noise from it can sound like it's coming from the kick panel. I re-read your post a couple times. I think you'd be best off checking out the starter and solenoid before tearing into the wireing and control units. I've had starters make a 'buzzing noise' that sounds like it's coming from inside the cab and had the same thing happen as you describe.

The ignition switch on the Gen2's have been known to fail causing it to be intermitant. Just something to look at. It screws into the back of the key tumbler with 2 screws. You can access it by removing bottom part of the steering column cover.
