Yeah I'm probably going to leave it as is.
I'm just inside the line for DEQ testing where I'm at.
They don't do a visual. But they do plug into the OBD2 port and let the vehicles computer tell them if it passes.

I'm sure it would be fine to switch though. As long as it does not throw a code I'd be good. But why mess with it when I know how to deal with it. Not against a bit of maintenance on the EVAP system every so often if needed. Besides, looking at diagrams I think the whole tank and everything has to be swapped due to differences in the vent tubes and such. No sense in making a headache for myself. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Doh!

Yours must be under the back like mine? (being the same year and body)
At least it's not the end of the world (no pun intended). Review the links and it explains a lot. Mine had that plastic tub it all sits in filled with mud. The filter could not breath. Took it off, hosed out the tub. And I pulled a layer of felt out of the filter as mud was packed up in there as well (needle nose pliers along the edge, the plastic deflector bends out of the way enough.).
I need to order up a new filter though so it's proper. That was the quick fix.
Might even try relocating it (just the filter with a length of hose, though that might let water get in and run down into the valve/canister.....) high up between the frame rails next to the tank.

There has to be a way to slightly modify it so that it still breaths right. and the chances of it getting clogged up are cut down. Maybe just add a defector so mud splash from the tire does not get to it. But that does not help me when I put it up to the bumpers in water or goo....
Or even get a couple of cleanable valve cover breathers mounted remotely and just swap and clean them regularly.

(As you can see I'm still figuring out a solution that does not require a total re-plumb of the system)
