I'm looking at some Gen 2 Monteros this week, 97 & 95 SR's. But I keep getting tempted by Gen 1's that are showing up on Craigslist. They look great, have low miles.
Help me out here..tell me why I'm going to be happier with the Gen 2. Lockers, modern conveniences etc etc I get it. But the Gen 1's just look so great =P

I love my Gen 1. It would be nice to have all the modern stuff but that's just more stuff to break.

Like the butterfly valves and the unkeyed CS Pulley... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" /> or the rear view mirrors that alays break internally from the cheesey plastic bracket...or the turnsignal stalk that plastic breaks and is 100 bucks to replace..Gen2's are great but also have flaws too.

I own both. Personally the Gen I is the best vehicle I have ever owned period! And I have owned a LOT of vehicles! If you do the heads (valve guides=smoke) Mine has around 300,000 miles odo isn't keeping miles correctly anymore. My daughter has been driving it for the last 2 years. Everything still works- Original AC,power windows, locks, Rear hatch switch replaced with JY part. origional tranny, rear, bottom of motor. My 95sr is more plush-but has already needed more stuff and has only 140's.

The one listed under "Ralleigh" is the same as the one listed under "SC" with new rims and tires, for 1K more..looks fishy or someone bought and is trying to flip it. Stickers on back hatch and spare tire give it away.

Wow you're right. I didn't notice that.
I have talked to a couple of folks in the last few weeks while searching for a truck, where they told me they buy and flip cars on CL as a hobby/side job.
I guess this is one of those cases.
