Getting the Wheeling Fever
Looking for opinions on any upgrades for spark/ignition. My coil is looking a bit haggard right now and since ive replace almost everything else in the rebuild this would be the next step.

well do you want mild or wild cause i have a bumch of options in my mind, i did a pertronix coil upgrade which runs real nice but you could always do a distributorless set up with ford edis and megasquirt running it then u have megasquirt if you want to run fuel injection down the road.

thats what i am piecing together right now for my truck

Well If it doesn't misfire, why upgrade the ignition? As long as it sparks, it sparks, and your money could be better spent elsewhere. I did replace a failed starquest coil with an Accel Super Coil, and did away with the dropping resistor on the old coil. This puts full battery voltage to the coil in ign run.

The main goal is to make sure the old dizzy is working right. They tend to wear on the centrif advance, and at mileages over 100k, most often need new parts, and a thorough cleaning. The vac advance pots also often leak at higher mileages.

cap, rotor wires and plugs are all new and there is a slight misfire at idle. Tried messing with the ignition timing and turning it all the way to the right is the only way i can get it to improve but its still there.

Oh yeah, engine barely has 20 miles on it after the rebuild..

Body Damage is Cool
What brand plug wires did you install? I've seen cheap plug wires be bad right out of the box.

Did you rebuild the distributor?

You could also have a weak ignition coil or a lean mixture at idle causing misfiring.

cap, rotor and wires where done right before i bought it and rebuilt it and there is no name on either of them. Distributor as far as i know hasnt been touched.

As for the mixture ive tried as best as i can to tune it and all it does is make it worse.

Weak coil is what i was thinking... hence why i started this thread. :p
