Jerry can on stock rack? #1055827 01/08/13 07:51 AM

Getting the Wheeling Fever
So my question is. Can the stock rack handle the weight of a jerry can? Also a bigger spare but not super huge (I'm only running 235's).

I keep wanting to have a can back there and already have a plan to move the tire over a few inches so a can will not block the left tail light.

I know once spring and summer come I'll be going back to some longer miles from anything for days runs and want to be able to carry some extra juice.
But before I start cutting and welding. I wanted to make sure I was not gonna leave the whole thing on the trail one day due to a mount failure.....

The mounts to the body look beefy enough. But are they? I'll be adding about 45 pounds or so when it's full (that includes the mounting, can weight and such).

Body Damage is Cool
I did it for over 3 years and didn't have a problem with the added weight of a 31" tire and during hunting season a 5 gallon can.

Thanks!

That's what I was hoping to hear. Like I said it all looks pretty stout to me. But I figured it smart to ask first if anyone had done it.

I just wish there was a way I could adapt the 4 door spare tire mount to my 2 door. I've darn near ripped off the door skin with the current bracket.

Eventually I'm going to adapt a "tire-gate" in place of the tailgate...

You could always go the bumper with a swing away mount route.
