My '92 SR's tach doesn't work. I suspect it is because of this broken wire - but I can't find the other end. The wire grounded out and I lost ignition - so I taped it up temporarily and all is well except I do not have a functional tach. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Thanks yall!

On the back of the bracket for the coil there's two metal housed electrical components. One is silver round like a condenser and next to it the other is rectangular. My double wire to the connector to a single wire, as your pic shows, goes to the bottom of the rectangular component. You may need a mirror to see it properly. Both components unscrew from the top.
Hope this helps without a picture.

And, a bolt appears to be missing from the top of your waterpump housing.

I think that's just the timing belt cover bolt. Above it is the WP housing cover bolt (the rusty one).

It's broken off the black component, if the two wires going into the connector are white/black stripe. The single wire off the connector goes to the box, a noise filter for the tach, and the white wire goes from the filter to the tach. The insulation at the connector tends to get brittle, then crack, and the wire breaks there at the crack from fatigue. It killed the motor when it grounded, because the coil won't charge up. The two white/black wires are the path from the coil - to the power transistor that switches the ground path on and off to first charge, then trigger spark from the coil.
I think I've read of some who have bypassed the noise filter with no bad results, but it's up to you. I managed to solder my wires back together at the break. Never tried to find a replacement part. On gen1's it's called an LC filter.

I now have a tach, I just bypassed the LC Filter. I'll check for one at PnP next time I'm down there.
Thanks very much, everyone.
