I had the same problem on mine. There doesn't appear to be any indication from the seal that you might expect with a rubber lip seating. I also just used a deep socket with a couple of light taps and that seems to have been good enough. It's been a while since I did this and no problems from a seal slipping up the valve stem.

Now I just need to get the right spring compressor and find the keeper that fell into the top of the head (all oil returns are plugged, so it's up there somewhere.

....and buy more keepers and more HLAs
