Going out for drinks? Tacos? Pool? Anything?
Use this sticky to post up meetings and random invites. Post up a time and place and maybe a link to a map. Even if it's last minute, you never know when a fellow Az Crewer just happens to be in your area.

We're gonna go install booze in our faces at Harvey's Wineburger tonight after eating asian food! I guess that makes this an invitation to join or whatever. Woo!

Stacey and I are going to cook dead animals and dead tofu and stuff this Saturday since we can't attend the Payette Draw wheelathon

So if you're similarly not being awesome you can come over, have a beer or a burger or both and we can talk about how much less cool we are than those who are out 'wheeling!

Get in touch if you don't know where I live.

Think you'll show up?

TWO opportunities to rock out!
 • First: This Friday 5/10 at somewhere around 8pm we're doing tacos and Mexican beer at Juan Jaime's Tacos & Tequila in Chandler. 2510 W Chandler Blvd. Bring hunger. They're not hella expensive, same price as any pub or bar. I have a friend coming in from GA so we'll be there regardless if anyone else is showing up.
 • Second: This Sunday, 5/12 in Sedona we're driving the usual suspects, Broken Arrow, Devil's Kitchen and probably Cliffhanger if it's still open, then cruising over to Jerome or something for dinner action. Currently "we" is just me in the Grand Cherokee and my homey from GA in the passenger seat. Anyway post up if you'd like to join. Weather should be great!

Saturday June 29th 2013. My house. It's kinda central-ish. 16th street and baseline area.

Got any wrenching that needs done? Do you yearn to install beer in your face? Do you just want to hang out with the other mofos on this forum? Well, every time I invite people out, they make excuses, so ready your next round of excuses. I'll be here with beer anyway.

I have a driveway, a relatively possible-to-get-a-vehicle-into garage, a tree that makes shade, a weak-ass air compressor and a modest assortment of random tools at my little home in the ghetto. Plus some crazy guy who rents my downstairs bedroom/bathroom/etc.

I'm available all day, guests will dictate the hours. Morning? Noon? Night? UNF! Contact me if you need directions, and let me know when's good.

Where are the white women at?

If anybody's going to be doing work, we should start early... you're not kidding that it's gonna be hot!

If we're going to just hang out and install beer.exe, the afternoon or evening should be fine - the tree's got some OK shade to offer and my A/C works fine - or we can scrap my house and hit the lake!

Bring an amp and a bass gee-tar, I've got that cab wired for 1/4" inputs now & Speakon (two inputs, 4 ohms + 4 ohms) - can eat about 800 watts total (but for architectural reasons, maybe let's keep it below that...) smile

I'm guessing beer can be any time in the evening, 7? It sorta starts getting less-than-maximum hot by then, and of course there's plenty of a/c inside the house.

If you're planning to wrench at all, come by earlier so there's still sunlight I guess.

Thanks everyone for coming out! Sorry I started fading pretty hard there by the end, that's what I get for waking up in the morning like an old man! smile

Especially thanks to Kevin and Pat for indulging me on that bass cab, now I feel more motivated to finish it (and then get the F rid of it, because I don't need the darn thing)

Stacey has next weekend off work, that's going to be our first weekend off together in FOREVER so we're adventuring, I'll do a little recon for our October trip so it can be a "something for everyone" sort of deal. I don't want anyone with a stock truck to feel abused but also don't want people to burn up their 35's on the highway and then park next to a Scion at the campsite.

This Saturday 10/12 around like... 7:30pm if that's cool

Tempe Tavern. I've never been there but they have the usual pub fare on their menu and rumor has it they offer beer.exe.

Not only that, but around 8:00 y'all are in for a super special treat involving METAL - mostly because there's a metal show. Don't worry there's no cover charge so you don't have to cough up the green if metal's not your deal. Come enjoy frosty beverages anyway and have good times.

[Linked Image]

They're located at 1810 E Apache Blvd in Tempe, that's around Apache & Mcclintock.

It's kind of backwards to do Crown King heading south. If you want something different, the Senator Highway from C.K. north into Prescott is nice but is really just a forest trail, not challenging.

only one way to find out. Just make sure all your plug wires are secure.

I did it in a Tempo, but they're more reliable than DSM's so that's still no proof that a Delica would stay running that long.

Ouch...no love for that trail, Rich. I will say that it's a nice ride through the forest and your son would probably enjoy it. There are other places to go near there, as well. Nearly directly west of the two exits from I-17 that lead to Crown King is the exit for Bloody Basin Road that leads to the Verde River. It connects to Seven Springs Road that heads south into the Carefree/Cave Creek area and into town from the north.

If Bloody Basin is too tame, continuing south on I-17 gets you to Table Mesa Road heading west again, still eventually joining Seven Springs Road, but there are far more challenging diversions, and easy bypasses, of course.

Did the Tempo have a lift?

I was thinking about camping in Flagstaff? The Overland Expo is going on that weekend tho. Isn't there an ice Cave around there somewhere?

Do I need a pass or permit to be camping and driving around in the mountain areas?

What isn't more reliable than a DSM? Delica is not a DSM so it might last long enough to make it. Maybe. Previous owner did some weird things to this car.

The only permits needed are that State Trust Land permit we used to get, but only on about ten miles worth of the Table Mesa trail (blow that permit off; what are the odds...right?) and a Tonto National Forest pass if you're doing any parking in that territory, but I don't think we're headed to there.

So, basically, no. If permits are required for most places, it'll be posted.

Oh yeah, some places around Sedona require one, too. I just so happen to avoid the area, generally.

I was scheduled to work the expo but plans changed and I am now just vacationing.

When I get to Phoenix I'll be staying at the world class and internationally known Casa de Butler Inn & Spa. There have been some good Yelp reviews.

A few good reviews by dubious contributors can give a false impression of quality, really. My place is all about dust in reality. No need to bring any, there's more than enough here and anyone is welcome to take some home.

The 14th St. Crew is geeked to wheel this weekend and we're also plotting to lay out some of the most random food items to see if you can make them into something edible. You seem to have a way with that "cooking" stuff. (I saw it on T.V. before).

Not all too sure what's going on over in the mesa compounds this weekend but rumor has it that my structure might be available soon. There's another rumor that we might be trimming up the tree for fitment on saturday morning.

But this talk about wheeling... when? where? Let me know more info as things progress and I might be able to come along, my buddy just picked up a 4 runner and he might be available too. I tried talking him into a montero but something about 'reliability' and 'user friendly' kept coming up. I've never heard those terms before so I'm not sure what he was talking about.

Are these plans being relayed to Jorge? He's been playing the hiding game since Sunday and I haven't talked to him since then.

Not sure what BottomFeeder's schedule is like. He's insinuated that we're to meet him somewhere. Or maybe we're not and he'll show up here first, not sure. Not even sure when he'll show up anywhere. So there.

This is all part of operation "Freedom 35". Got rid of most of my stuff and quit Craigslist, getting my stuff in order with quality over quantity. This should lead to more future wheeling. Hopefully.

There's two new seasons on Netflix that they just recently shot and they just announced another one they're producing.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Rich, where are you at?

I am leaving Albuquerque this morning. We will be camping by the Lava River Cave tonight. We will be in Phoenix Friday around 12-2 pm after we pack up.

For some reason I brought my chefing tools with me. Don't know why but I figured you just never know.

Oh and I also brought a set of upper ball joints for my 90 if anybody wants to trade. Also brought a set of Asain hubs so smebody could show me how to make them fit.

I need to replace my rear brake pads too

Good times, indeed. No straps of shame, no rock stacking necessary. The 83 Power Ram with open differentials acquitted itself nicely by getting through just about everything that was thrown at it. That's a fun truck since it sits with a lower center of gravity than a Montero, and as a result, off-camber stuff is less pronounced. I like it.

Just got to get the a/c fixed and it'll be a year-rounder.

Will the '83 be you're new wheeling rig? do we need to install some sliders and a Montero Sport locking rear axle?

No way could I adapt to that truck for any length of time. It's just too small inside for me and is just a bit too Spartan, to boot.

It needs a/c repair, and that'll be expensive, I'd bet, since it starts with a new hose, carries on to an R-134 conversion, then evacuation/vacuum hold and a recharge just to find out what else it needs.

It doesn't have cruise control. It doesn't have a sound system. The interior sucks and the seats kill my back unless I take a pillow to jam in so I don't get all hunched over. And it needs some front end work, namely the lower control arm front bushings.

Then it would need traction aids, and not just a limited slip rear; a front locker would really be sweet, but I don't think anything's available.

The toughest part would be getting Jorge to pay for all of it. But it is a lot of fun to drive, all else being equal.

If Rich sticks around for any length of time, I'm going to weigh 240 pounds and I won't fit in it anyway. The guy cooks food like it's going out of style or something.
