Need a Spot
Just wondering if anyone has converted their standard halogen headlights into an HID Kit. If so, is it as simple as just buying one of those kits and pluging it in or is there more involved. My big concern is that the light emitted from the HID will be blinding other drivers.

Any input appreciated.

Thank you for the consideration. I hate those brilliant white lights - and yes they are at the least annoying.

Yes! very easy to install, it took me about 30 min to do. As far as the lights for other drivers... That's there problem. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

Which Montero you have which will determine what headlamp setup you have. Placing HID bulbs in your stock headlamp housings will be excessively bright to oncoming drivers - potentially dangerous and a good way to get yourself pulled over and issued a ticket. The early Monteros with the round sealed beams are the easiest to upgrade safely - get a pair of Hella E-code headlamps that will replace the factory US-spec lamps that have a miserable excuse for beam cut-off. You can then get a bi-Xenon HID kit to fit the H4 bulbs that those lamps use. The E-codes are Euro-spec and have a very crisp low-beam cut-off so you won't blind oncoming drivers with the higher light output of the HIDs. If you have a GenII then you'll have to source a set of used headlamps from a European Montero on eBay or similar to house the HID bulbs - again, the US-market headlamps have poor delineation for the low beams and would be a serious hazard to oncoming drivers with HID bulbs in them.

Unless you have a blister fender or a sport, we use H4's. I tested my HID's out on friday night, no problems from other drivers or cops flashing me yet. but then again around here there are enough euro cars with HID's to blend in with

That's a good idea actually. Any links to one or suggestions for quality brands?

They share the same bulb, don't they?

I have them and as Toasty mentioned, H4 isn't blinding like other bulbs. Barely any difference on high beams tho

They would have to if you don't change the reflector. What brand are you using? Where did you install the HID ballast?

Took me a half hour to install as well, one ballast is under the overflow bottle and the other is attached to the harness near the right headlamp. Pretty clean install and the ballasts are safe, i'm thinking anyone can install these.
