That was partly the idea. Calico is closer to LA where I will be, and closer for the AZ crew. Will be a bit further for some Northern CA folks. Calico is a simple to find place to meet as well.

Calico as in the ghost town off of I15 just east of Barstow?

You are correct.

Its a bit of a tourist trap that CA purchased as a park. Thought it would be fun for the kids, and there are some cool trails close by as well as historical stuff. am going to watch the FTR property progress....Maybe in 2014 we will have something new.

FTR? Do you mean Friends of the Rubicon (aka FOTR)?

Just Monday-Wednesday. PS guys talking with my wife, if we pull off the move next year to Colorado we may have to skip next years Sierra Carnage, because we would be moving at the end of the summer and be busy as hell.

I have some cool trivia about Calico. I work for Knott's Berry Farm. Walter Knott had purchased the town of Calico, and then donated it to the county.

But before that...his father was, IIRC, a Sheriff (?) in Calico around the turn of the century. So Walter Knott spent a lot of time there as a child. That's what fostered his love for Calico in particular. When he became a millionaire, he just bought the whole town!

Segue in to...

I won't be able to make the Sierra trip, but I *will* plan to meet the group in Calico and see you guys off. I'm sure I'll have a friend or two who may want to come up; I might stay in the Calico area a couple days and then head home. We'll see.
