I got the airbox from a D50. The filter was in it too, and it was nice and clean so I left it there. When I moved the antifreeze overflow reservoir from the right side of the bay, I found two holes that had been taped over. When I took off the tape the airbox bolt holes lined up perfectly. I'll post some more pics soon. Thanks for asking.

That's very interesting, Toasty. The advice I got was to not fit an electric pump as this can damage the front seal in the injector pump. But if you haven't had any problems I wouldn't quarrel with success.

Maybe that's why my injection pump leaks in the rear? it's a 3-5psi pump so not real powerfull, maybe once i fix the leak i'll 86 it.

Could be. The injector is a lift pump by itself, so I'm not sure it would appreciate any help by adding an electric pump in the fuel line.

1. so I had to get a flywheel from a Dodge D50. It worked,
2. the alternator (also from a Dodge D50).
Please ask if you have any questions!

I'm planning a similar conversion to my Raider later this spring and have a couple questions... (although I've been thinking lately that maybe it will go in my Gen 2...)

I have a 240mm flywheel and clutch from a '88 Starquest engine. Any tips if this will fit with my 4D56 starter?

What is the amp output of your D50 alternator? I assume its from a diesel with the vacuum pump on the back?

I think the diesel pickup alternator is 40-45 amp, i'm running a NPR alternator and it's 75 amp. i bought it because it was listed to fit the mighty max, it needed a fair amount of custom work to get it mounted properly. I recommend going with the gen 2 4d56 alternator for more power and it will actually fit.

4D56 alternator: just a heads up, if you have it out, I'd at the very least put new seals/o-rings in it, where the vacuum pump attaches to it. If these seals fail, it gives the alternator a very unnecessary bath with oil, which makes it hesitant to give you all that new juice. smile (Mine happened in January, before I built a garage, when it was snowing heavy enough to cover my tools in the time it took me to remove the alternator bolts.)

You DIY diesel guys are probably very aware of this, but just in case it gets overlooked in the excitement of all that diesel smoke... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" />
