Being a Montero guy to the core i like to keep as much Mitsu in my truck as possible, but i am also on a thin budget so i build trucks on the cheap. My suggestion is use the drivetrain that already matches the motor, this will make your life easier. If you have the funds or the MacGyver ability i say go for the LS1/Aisin combo, other wise make a check list of things you'll need for the complete swap. Plan on clearancing things under the hood, frame modifications, component relocation, custom mounts and crossmembers, DO A BODY LIFT, think about oil pan to differential clearances and don't forget custom driveshafts.
I know my priorities are kinda scrambled up at the moment. I just have been brainstorming since finding out about the possible cheap motor. I also have access to a 1995 4.3 Blazer. transmission is 10k miles old, but the motor is 400k miles and is about ready to die so I am probably going to pass on it.

I've helped with some classic resto-mod cars and we generally use newer motors with painless wiring kits. My grandfather is no automotive electrician but even he can figure out the wiring kits. Don't go get a carb, I don't care what anyone says carbs suck offroad. Anyways i get what you mean about wanting the interior to be all Montero, I was just stating that will be the easy part making the shifter work. I'm trying to be helpfull and straightforward.

I understand you are being helpful with focusing my priorities and its appreciated. I was going to put the 3.5 I have in the Montero, But the Raider's motor is on its way out and with the transfercase finally crapping out along with the front diff. I feel it would benefit the 3.5 more along with that super select transfercase I bought off you. I figure a 4door would have the extra space if the GM trans and transfercase will be longer. Montero is also alot rustier than the Raider and I won't be as sad cutting into it to move things around.

Also, the aisin auto trans has a bellhouse that can get unbolted. I was thinking if I measure 5000 times and find a shop willing, they could cut up a spare aisin bellhousing and make one that works on a 350-LS motor, same with a GM flywheel have it modded to bolt to a mitsu TC. I remember reading where the stock trans can handle well into the 400hp range (I think it was an old FastEddy thread).

You ought to just buy my truck honestly. It's already there.
The mitsu trans MIGHT hold 400 hp, but that's getting close to stock output of a LS motor. Prob not a good idea.

your truck might be nice, but its a 2 door Also, the LS motors from the late 90s camaro are sitting at like 320hp stock. I know thats close to the 400 mark, but with a properly working and well cooled aisin trans, I don't see why it wouldn't hold it with little issue.

IF you were just hell bent on an LS1 the route I'd take would be to find a motor out of a camaro, or TA, and then the transmission, and transfer case out of a 1500 GMC or Chevy truck. That way you get the light motor, and correct 4wd parts.

I blew up an asian trans with a turbo 4 cylinder. If you think that one is going to stand up to a LS1.... well... I hope it does but don't have much confidence. If you bought my truck, you've got a ready drivetrain to go right off into your 4 door.
Heck.. I'll even sell you the motor(all acessories, ECU, wiring, etc/trans/transfer case. It'd be the closest thing you'd ever get to a swap ready GM motor. I'll part the rest of the truck out.

Way back when I was contemplating swapping my 2.6T motor into my gen1 2dr, I called Mitsu cusomer service and sweet talked my way to the engineering department, who transferred me to the Aisin Warner tech dept and I found an engineer who spoke English, and understood Southern (which he thought was funny, and put me on the speaker phone for the other Anglophones to hear), and the most he felt comfortable with was the metric equivalent of 300ft lbs of torque. I think an LS1 would smoke an AW372 mitsu trans. A 700r4/4L60E would work just fine, and adapt to a NV242 tcase for a center diff and be equivalent to a gen2 selectrac
