Hey guys.

Basically I recently noticed an odd noise coming from the front diff when in 4wheel drive when on the acceleration side. When I'm coasting, or off the gas, I don't hear it. When I'm 2wheel drive, I hear nothing at all

A little bit of back ground. I have an ARB locker in the diff and tho I've had it in the diff for several years now, it's never been hooked up to work. The furthest I got was running the air tube from the diff and rolled up the extra slacking tubing up over the diff and zip tied it. Noticed there would be diff fluid coming out of the tube when it got hot. Is the breather clogged? Why did fluid come out of the air tube of the locker? If the air locker tube was hooked up to the actuator, would it have developed air pressure in the tube so that the fluid didnt escape into the air tube of the locker? Or is there not supposed to be any fluid in that tube at all, regardless if its hooked up to the actuator or not?

there shouldn't be any fluid in the locker air line. have you pulled the diff cover yet?

Check to see that the breather isn't clogged.

Then, check inside to see if the air line is disconnected or damaged internally.

Then...hook up your ARB open diff please. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Toasty, I haven't. The fluid level was at proper levels, there was some play in the front drive shaft which tells me there might be something worn out?

I don't know of there is a O-ring it seal that caused the fluid to come through into the air locker line. If it supposed to be free of any fluid, even of its not pressurized?

I was never able to locate the breathers on the doffs and follow them. I'd like to extend them as well

It's an air line, not a fluid line...it shouldn't have gear oil in it. I think you may have to get in there to see what's going on.

Though, you could try contacting ARB first with your symptoms, as it's probably something they have heard before.

What about the gears itself? Play in the front drive shaft mean my ring and pinion going out?

I'm hoping the ARB locker didn't have anything to do with that?
