The stuff that turns a hi lift into a poor man's winch, a pad to keep the foot from sinking into the mud, about 12' of chain, and the thingy that hooks the jack to the bumper or frame or wherever you need to snatch it from.

It really depends on the individual, the use of the Montero during the trip,,, if another vehilcle is accompanying and the distance from Syphilization.
I alway seem to be alone(I smell bad and am one grouchy SOB)and these days I hang in Carrizo Plains National Monument where you won't see another human for weeks. Therefore I carry an ammo can full of spare electronic parts:

mass air sensor

I noticed you have shovel on your list. It should be a proper shovel. A entrenching tool looks cool and doesn't take much space, but it's not worth a damn if you have to do serious digging - which you would if you're stuck. A #1 size works well.

When I first started wheeling would pack a crazy amount of stuff.

I've come to realize that rig maintenance is my best friend. Making sure hoses, bushing, belts, etc.. are in good shape before heading out. Then when on the trail slow and easy keeps the truck intact.

Now a days I carry oil, brake fluid, WD 40, and a good tool kit with assorted nuts, bolts and small spares.

For off road the must haves are CB, fire extinguisher, spill clean up kit, air compressor, solid recovery points, first aid kit, winch and recovery kit.

High lift - in five + years I've seen them used twice . Once to help clear a tree and once to change a tire. Unless you have the others dodads for it or dedicated jacking points they are useless.

Then I carry 3 or 4 gallons of water (can't remember the size of the dedicated water container), a backpack with spare clothes which varies according to the season and basic survival gear. Oh and always have TP in the kit as well :-) .

If wheeling by myself which I do not recommend will pack more equipment but in group some one most likely will have what you need.

As a beginner as long as you have solid recovery points, some basics tools and understanding of your truck and good attitude you'll be fine. Leave no man behind is our attitude on the trail.

Yes the shovel is proper, and TP has been added along with a sleeping-bag. removed the run-flat and got a small compressor and yellow-top. Had way to many tools. Its so wet & muddy up in the NW that I got 4 bolts and a 1/2" plate for the bottom of my Hi-Lift. Its really only been off the road about a mile so far. Found that I need a little bigger tires, not really wider but taller. Have 29/9.5 with a more aggressive nob and found a good set of 32/10 I will probably get. I think I need to run it in the mud a bit more before I really pull the trigger on that kind of upgrade.

yes I'd say those tires are not tall enough for anything but city street snow.
I run 31's.
I think those 32s would be even better cause yours in LWB.
I recomend 7" or maybe 8" rims. It will handle on highway better than with factory 6", IMHO.
Those more in the know will jump on for your max tire hieght without T bar crank or cutting mods. But I think 32s won't require any changes.
