... accidentally leaving the lights on and killing the battery to the point where one of the fuses starts clicking, at which point you realize you left the lights on and that the battery is dead. So you jump the truck only to discover that the seat belt light is now on permanently?

This happened to me this evening, and it was only for the fact that it is garbage night, and that as I walked past the truck I heard a clicking sound.

Any ideas why the seat belt light would be permanently lit now? Or is there something I can do to reset it?

This is in my 94 SR 6G74.

As always, thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

As the voltage drops in the discharging battery, the amperage goes up. It may have fried the seatbelt light switch.

Or do you have a weight in the passenger front seat, triggering the light circuit?

Hi Eddy,

Thanks for the reply.

No, there is nothing in the front seat. What a bummer.

I cant find the seat belt switch in ASA. Any idea where it is (in the seat somewhere I assume?) and if it can be replaced cheaply?

there might also be a diode involved. There are 2 taped in the the wires behind the gen 1 instrument cluster, don't recall right now what they go to. Don't know if they can burn out with continuity.
I cut the wire on my seatbelt. Might not get away with that on the more sophisticated SR.

Thanks Dave,

I will have another look for the sensors, as I didn't see them first time around.

I appreciate the reply.

If you find the issue, let me know please. I did the same thing (lights on - dead battery) last Thursday and also have the "fasten seatbelt" light on all the time now.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I had this problem concerning the seat-belt light when I first got my 90. It had a Cobra security system. I pulled it out (Harder then it looked). The battery died that night due to a cutoff that was pulling power. After a jump and 30 min tracking the cut-off my seat-belt light stayed on. Mine was caused by the cut-off being routed to the seat-belt supply and when the batt died it somehow left that light on. I accidentally fixed it by replacing the driver wire all the way to the dash. So the diode answer may be the correct one. After rereading my post..... I may not have contributed much to the conversation. sorry, I tend to ramble. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Happened to me once just like you. I disconnected my battery for a little bit an reconnected it and it went away. This was on my 98 gen 2.5. I think it only happens with jump starting the car since that's when it happened to me.

Ding ding ding! You sir, get the prize! I did as you suggested and disconnected the battery, left it off over night, and when I re connected it this morning, seat belt light was off!

Thank you for your replies, gentlemen. Much appreciated as always.
