Need help diagnosing my water temp gauge #1058980 04/17/13 01:59 PM

Water temp gauge stopped working last week so I thought that the temp sending sensor went out and got a new one. Put it in last night and the gauge still does not work. Checking the FSM I saw that I should be able to put a test light on the wire and it should light up and the gauge should move to the high side but no good.

Not sure what else to check. Any ideas?

Thanks
Chris

the wire is cracked in the terminal or the wire could be cracked at some place where it vibrates and "microflexes"(good luck finding the spot).
I'd pierce a straight pin into the wire before the terminal and alligator clip a wire from the straight pin to the terminal and see if the gauge works then.

I ordered a new temp gauge on line and figured that I would put it in place of the inclionmeter. Lose a little bit of cool factor but the new gauge has some cool factor to it.
WATER TEMP GAUGE
If this one works out nice I may just change out all my others to these.
I am going to try what you suggested and see if I can just use a jumper wire and see if it works. If it does I may just rewire the existing one and have two.

Does the fuel gauge work now. There's a voltage regulator thingy on the back of the panel board that drops the gauge voltage to about 7v for fuel and water temp.

If you ground the sender wire, the gauge should go to full scale. Do not leave it grounded long.

My fuel gauge works fine but never could get my temp gauge to work. I did get my new one in though in place of the inclinometer and it works great.

I plan on replacing all the gauges with these style including the fuel gauge. The fuel gauge on this site says that I need to know the OHM Resistance Level but I have not looked up what that is yet. Not sure if I can even find that info.

Got my new water temp gauge in and decided to go ahead and replace the volt and oil pressure ones as well. Here is the result.

The centering is a little off.. will have to fix that as it will drive me crazy but over all I like it.
