I've done it, but havent documented it.

You can run into problems acquiring seals and such depending upon what year Gen1 you have. I had only looked at 89-91 units since that's what I have. 89 is different from 90&91 (consequently, so is the pitman arm itself). The 89 unit has a smaller diameter shaft.

From what I can recall, seal kits are (or were) readily avaialble for the 90-91 units. 89 was a different matter. I had to get most of the seals piece by piece - and in bulk - from a local seal manufacturer after browsing catalogs and gettign the OE packing(seal) specs online.

After rebuilding my 89 unit, it's done a great job of remaining leak free the past 3 years and 15k miles (not a primary vehicle).

If you can get a full seal kit, go for it. If you have an 89 unit, you can either go through a seal distributor like I did , or give me a PM - I still think I have bags of extra seals for an 89.

88 and earlier either use a different gear or are the same as the smaller shaft 89 unit.
