Body Damage is Cool
I'm trying to get an ATV running that was left sitting for a number of years. The fuel in the tank appears to have dissolved the plastic filter sock and left a slimy mess in the bottom of the tank. Does anyone have any experience with some sort of solvent that will clean the sludge from the bottom of the plastic gas tank?

This is what I scraped out of the tank.

I've never seen it that bad, but i have had good luck with berryman chem dip on old carbs and fuel tanks. You can buy it in gallons at most auto parts stores.

You're gonna want to be sure you get it all...how much cost/effort would it be to get another tank all together? Might be easier if it's an option.

The tank is only sold as an assembly with the fuel pump and sending unit assembly included, for a measly $600. I've already found a new pump and pickup filter for it for less than $100. I was actually able to get most of the goop out of the tank - it's in a small area at the very bottom about 8" x 4" - and I've got some Berryman's parts cleaner solvent in it now to loosen up the sludge.
