I 5x8 should not be too heavy. Just make sure you load it heavy enough in the front to get a proper tongue weight.

And don't be afraid to go slow up the big hills. I towed a ~3500lbs trailer with my old 95 LS from Vegas to the L.A. area, lots of big long hills (and 110+ degree heat) trying to climb above 55 had the temp gauge climbing but other than that it was fine.
