Overdrive and pulling a trailer do not go hand and hand. In most cases you'll get better fuel mileage pulling without overdrive and not stress your engine.

Just my 2 cents worth. Do a google search,"overdrive or not overdrive when pulling a trailer".

if its a long flat stretch, leave OD on, it's fine.

If there are any hills, even fairly minor, take OD off, the extra power is good, and not shifting back and forth will save a lot of wear on your trans.

Have a good drive!

Texas is a nightmare if you love wheeling and the outdoors, all private except for Big Bend which is a long ways away. Better then CT for damn sure though! And the economy cannot be ignored. Keep in mind Texas is coming to grips with its own monumental crisis in regards to locking so many people up in prison.....They are having to come to accept they lost sight of freedom and rights as well, just not so much in regards to fire arms. At least now you can get to really great wheeling in a days drive, but you will be a days drive away. Never had any trouble towing with a Montero honestly, and towed as much as 12K, not well mind you or far, but they are heavy duty rigs, just not a lot of power so don't get in too much of a hurry.

Thanks for the replies, gents. I really do appreciate them all.

I will take my time, and turn off o/d on any type of hill. Almost 1700 miles due to certain states not recognizing my CC permits, but once I get out of NY, I have a clear CC run all the way down. Looking forward to the scenery.

Thanks again, gang. this really is one of the best forums I have come across. you guys are just awesome!

Yeah the tranny was good at switching down on it's own, problem is it would shift back up and then back down and hunt on the hills. Better to just turn off OD at any hill.

But yeah for flat or downhill there should not be any problem with OD.
