I never use AC,,,its a dry heat... :
Right after moving to CA in 98 I got a small roller and a can of white rustoleum. I haul animals and they are more important than a good looking paint job.
My Raider was gold,,,,the white paint made the inside surface of my roof 40o cooler on a 105o day.
old Landrovers I've seen around here have a double roof,,,i.e. ,like a second piece of the sheet metal with spacers in betweenthe 2 roof.

I want to do this with mine, but on a Green gen2 with tan trim, adding a 3rd color is probably going to look terrible.

I'm going to explore options for some other reflective material, maybe incorporating crossbars somehow. Not sure yet.

That and the Daktari vehicle would be fun vehicles to play.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
This is too funny. I just pulled a Gen one out of the yard that had a leaky sunroof (imagine that). I did not have the money to fix it perfectly and since it is a weekend ride I went out and got 12 ft of EPDM. Stretched it over the top, self adhesive mil grade thin rubber. Looks like paint. This way I can peel it off when I have the money to fix the sunroof. Looks like a fresh coat of paint and it comes of with anti-adhesive without hurting the paint.

Thinking about doing the white roof on my black truck. Definitely could use a little help reducing cabin temps this summer. Already touching 100? here and will be so for the next five months. ('?' = ALT+248 on the 10-key pad, by the way.) Also considering that 1500? exhaust paint in a bright silver. It's got ceramic in it, which I suspect might further insulate the sheetmetal.

The experiment:
Pick up a meat thermometer at the local grocery store or whatever a week before you plan to paint the roof. The cheap kind with the dial. Park the truck like usual (windows up/down, sun shade, whatever) and leave the thermometer on the driver's seat. Jot the time and temp down when you get in. After the paint job, repeat the process. See what - if any - difference it makes. smile

I've always got a meat thermometer in my truck. It's a throwback from my old Galant VR4. I used it to confirm my AC was working at its best. Stuck in traffic in 110? heat, that car would push 45? air through the dash vents. It was glorious.

I guess I'm gonna do the Monopoly thing and go directly to painting the roof white. I happen to believe that manufacturers get some things right, and the reflective qualities of the white just make sense. Not sure what I'll do though when some fool compares it to a late model FJ though.

My 1959 LR series 2 has the optional "tropical roof".
My Montero has a white one.
Both are cool
