I've pulled the orange blinky-light error code for the transfer case ECU on my '01 Montero Limited, and learned that the switch(es) are faulty (error code 33). I've ordered a set of five new ones.
I'm pretty handy, but have never pulled a transfer case before. Any guidance would be very much appreciated!

It honesty might be easier to just temporarily lift up the body enough that you can access the switches on top. In mine I have a 2" BL and I can access the switches to change them out. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I'd see if you can get the clearance you need by just unbolting the crossmember and let it all hang down a bit, maybe even give it a tug or two to push it down. Removal might be what the book says, but real world might be another story ;-) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

not sure on Gen 3 but on my Gen2 , if you take out the console & transfer lever then you have access to the switches.
As I say not sure on the gen 3 , but if it were me I would be cutting myself an access hole in the floor pan before I removed the transfer case, they are H U G E & weigh heaps, a real bugger of a job.
BTW I had the same code on my Gen3 & it went on for weeks (flashing CD light) but then it just fixed itself!! believe it or not, my next step was replacing the switches.
