Need a Spot
Hi all,

I have been unsuccessful in my search in Oz so I thought I would tap into your knowledge base to see if anyone else has come up with a solution to keep the rear door on a gen 1 from shutting on a slope.

I note the gen 2 shoguns had a locking mechanism to keep the door open. I bought one to see if I could somehow fab up something on my car but looks like it might need serious modifications.

An alternative would be using a stay that would normally hold the hood up.

Has this issue annoyed anyone enough to come up with a solution?

btw what do you call the rear swinging door on a shogun in the states?

Andrew

On a downhill slope mine held the rear (barn) door open about 1/2 way instead of allowing it to close..... but sometimes the angle had more to do with it that the stop ....it had to be pretty steep for it to engage.....not sure an upgrade from one gen to the other would help that much.....that's the Calif view - the boys in Az don't know what a hill is <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> so maybe someone else can chime in.....

In the case of my Raider, the rear door stay was either me or a hand getting crushed expectedly by the door. The same era Isuzu Trooper has a nice little latch, but I never bothered to evaluate the use on a Mitsu.

Body Damage is Cool
Years ago, John Baker sold a small machined widget that had (I believe) connected to a small chain that you could place in the opening to keep the door from closing.
As a carpenter, I cut a piece of 1" by 1" and kept if just inside the door for just that purpose.

haha loving the responses. Pretty much what I am getting here!!

Its become more annoying as I have just made a rear storage unit with the drawer on the hinge side. When I slide the drawer out the barn door needs to be fully open.

I might just consider a length of timber for the time being. It doesnt tickle when the weight of the door hits you in the back of the legs when you are trying to get something out of the back!

Andrew

PS AZ is flat...will be checking it out as part of a 9 week US trip in Sept/Oct. 5 weeks of that will be road tripping.

Flagstaff is NOT flat and has some pretty volcanoes. Sedona is flat in places, but look out for cliffs. Nearby Windsor, there is a great big hole in the ground to watch out for...Meteor Crater.

AZ is not flat. Nebraska is flat.

It's Winslow, Russell. Come on out to AZ. We'll show you all "flat."

Heh heh.

My point...

Thanks for the correction, have only been over that part of AZ in a commuter plane going to Durango.

Flat might be a tire?

This came to me as I was doing some of my best work on the john.

one th sliding end of the stay, whiz wheel a square notch, about .125x.125x.125" just outside the sliding hole. Using a piece of 1/8" stock, cut a piece about 1"x.25", and drill a hole about 1/8" off the end. Put a self drilling screw just smaller than the hole into the pice of stock, and position it where you can swing it into the slot in the stat, then drill the self driller into the side of sliding hole in that position. when you want to prop the door open, swing the tab into the slot.
