I have a non ABS open diffed 2001 Sportage. It has developed a gear whine that is getting louder by the day. (changed the gear oil with good stuff a few times) So I know it's on it's way out.
So the question is. KIA Parts Outlet has the whole carrier/gears/diff for an ABS model with an LSD. If I'm going to put new parts in I'd like to go that route, as the price difference is not that much in the grand scheme of things over another open. Can I use that and just not hook up the ABS sensor? I assume I may have to plug a hole in the top of the carrier where the sensor goes if it does not have one in it.
I may also look at the dealer to see what the price difference is. Sure it costs more but no shipping to see if it evens out.
Going to also tear into it and see just whats going on. If the side bearings are worn and throwing the mesh out of whack but the gear teeth are still good I may just put new side bearings in it and call it good. But wanted to know ahead of time just in case. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
(and yes lockers are also on my mind since I'll be in there, just didn't want to have to set the mesh as it's my first time.... I've rebuilt engines though so if I have to I have to, not afraid of getting tolerances right.)
