Michael, logic with me here. This is a 5spd, right? When you shift to R, the lever is to the right and rear. This means the shift rail it moves it the one to the left on the dside. The shift rails run in the top of the tranny, one centerline, and one about an inch to each side of the center one. The R light switch must drop into a notch in the dside shift rail, so it must insert in line with that rail. The 5th/R shift rail is short, because R and 5 are in the tailshaft housing of the tranny, so the switch should be in that area. This should narrow it down to a small location. If all else fails, look in the 92-95 fsm, since the trannies are very close to identical. Happy hunting.
