The top where the shifter plate bolts down will be best to just use RTV and also make sure the metal gear shift plate is there. Without it that breather on the top shifter plate does nothing but weep gear oil. If you need to remove it I would just replace your output shaft seals front and rear and also replace the input shaft seal that goes between the tranny and xcase. Those three seals order from the dealer. I won't ever use aftermarket seals to avoid headaches. Plus dealer seals are not much more expensive to use and you get the exact fit.
