I like Canyonero's idea. At least then you could say you've positively done the best you can to seal the pan...then look elsewhere for any other source and leave that stinking pan alone. Powder does work for finding leaks, too. Good luck.

I'd probably have replaced the pan after the second failed reseal attempt, due to the distortion from the frustration-induced sledgehammer dents that it would have.

Ten pages and still leaking. So today I ordered the. Shifter input shaft seal. It's i. The left side just above tranny pan. Mine seems to be bad so in hoping this is the culprit. I believe I thought about this earlier and to tattily forgot. I think Adam/toasty mentioned its a pretty quick fix. Hopefully what's happening is once the tranny fluid gets really hot it's leaking out of this seal and down the side to the tranission pan. Making it seem as if it's the tranny pan when really it's this bullshit seal. Part should be here Monday.

Need to source a passenger side axle also mine is clicking. Boot is garbage. Any good spot or napa pretty much it.

The general consensus seems to be that the factory axles are stronger than anything aftermarket. Although I just installed a new aftermarket axle, I'm going to replace the torn boots on the factory axle that I took off and reinstall it. You'd probably be best off locating a used axle and installing it with new boots.

Merry Xmas guys. This next attempt as fore mentioned will be my last. Then I'm paying someone or something. I'll have to figure out. Perhaps you're right ryan. I kind of feel like I've exhausted my own theories. Maybe a good clean up job, literally throw powder on there and see where the source may be. the man hours suck as with these older ones its not as easily accessible. My brother and law offered me 2000$ for it and he would take care of any issues on his own coin. those gen 2's sure start to look better when I know all I have to do is find a clean one, put tires on and drive. .. . .

Just remember, any gen 2 you buy is now getting to be 14turning years or older. Even there gonna have there own problems. Not to mention the cost if maint. Is a bigger expense. Especially after you purchase one with how old there getting. Not saying its a bad choice though, just becareful. At this point i guess really depending on how bad its leaking, i would just say f'it. If you have to put a quart in every oil change or so to keep the trans topped off, than thats cheaper than all the fluid you probably keep buying once you pull the pan.

If it doesnt leak, than it doesnt run.

Check your ball joints for play or looseness - you've got to separate them to replace the axle so you're only a few bolts away from replacing them if they're worn.

Well today I went to pick up the Shift shaft seal / seal at which the linkage goes into the transmission. They sent the wrong part. Great.

Regardless. Im starting to think, how difficult is it to do a 5 speed conversion. Pricey? is it worth it. I hope you guys understand my frustration here.

I'm just getting to the point where I'm wondering at what point is it worth it.

Should I try to see if someone will trade me, anyone anyone?

hang in there and fix it? either pulling the tranny off and going through it. new seals, gaskets, etc..

or totally commit and consider other options such as 5 speed conversion, a new tranny, or taking it in to a transmission specialist to just re-fresh the unit.

All opinions welcomed.

truck runs good, has AC. new tires etc. decent sound system, clean interior. rebuilt engine. ... leaky trans.

loosing my mind.

5 speeds can leak too, plus that's a more involved swap than what you're dealing with now. Just sayin'

I've seen replacement trans go for anywhere between 250-500.

It certainly seems extreme, considering that if I pulled this one out I could probably rehab it just fine then.

I think desperation is sinking in.
