I would just like to state, that every site I post on has now made a madmax reference on my build thread. My life is now complete.

I not sure if this is a fun retort, or not. I supply the reference for more than the obvious to US gearheads about your locale.

The Chevy 350 that Richard wants to run (to me) is not a good fit in the Gen I Montero engine bay due to length of engine, wrong placement of the distributor, and other minutiae. The Ford small block has a front mount dizzy, block length is several inches shorter and leaves more room for ancillary / accessory components.

No disrespect intended to our 'mate, here. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

None taken, haha, i made a joke about gasoline a few posts up. its a great movie, and I always make reference to the "tough" highway drives. I would almost perfer it. make those long drives more lively.

as for the v8 a guy here dropped a new ls1 in, but all electronic so it must fit better.

I jsut needed the diesel so Ican always get going and easy to fix.

I like that design and I like the way you are heading with your build not sure how much extra milage you will squeeze outta all of it but you be built more to your liking for sure. ease of gear packing etc...

I sure hope it turns out how I am planning it, haha. should be a 200kg lighter in the end. we shall see. more room for fuel and water. haha.

the packing up will be quick, I will get 2 more space cases. make it easy and throwable as I am rough as [censored] on gear.

Figuring that you would use aluminum for the construction of the ute body, have you estimated the weight difference? The two passenger doors, cargo door and side glass might save about 250 pounds. The subject roof section is give-or-take comparable to a Gen I 2-door is about 75-100 pounds...I have cut up two Monteros this way. I have not reduced the cab floor for recycling.

One of the Betsy's had the back half removed, and Toasty did the same to a Gen 2. Threads are older but should still have some useful info:

Toasty's Monchopo

Beer and Cutting Tools

Shame the pics from these are both gone! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

Got my first quote on the Aluminium canopy, 4000 to do, that includes roof rack, and dual spare tyre holder, and fitting, so I can live with that price

I also found the hyundia makes out 2,5L still and for 5k I can get a new engine top to bottom, everything included, even plastics. awesome, might jsut do that instead of a rebuilt unit. I will do some more reearch, but so far not any negative comments on them

Well, today was a good day, I have gotten the whole interior stripped. My storage system had no fail points that i found while removing it which is good, but it was heavy. so it had to go.

Then I reinstalled the front seat and set it all the way back to find where I should be cutting it at. where the green line is allows me 50mm behind the seat at its current setting which is more than enough.

Here is the line down the whole side of the wagon.
