Need a Spot
Gents, been awhile since I was here(since the engine swap) life has been throwing hardballs and I havent had a lot of time to play. Now I have an issue with my sporty. Its throwing a aP0440 code which is EVAP related. Im also only getting 17mpg and thats with at least 50% highway miles, and my acceleration when first starting off is sssllllooooowwwwww. It used to take right off even squawking the rear tire. Its not to bad from a stop light once youve been driving for a while and for the most part highway acceleration is ok, but if the car has been turned off, the first couple of times you take off it just doesnt want to go. I just recently swapped the engine, plugs, wires and boots are new, new timing belt and water pump, engine has been resealed. It ran real well for a while but now it just dogs out. Im not sure if something came loose, or if something is broke, or if I have a vacuum leak leak somewhere. Anybody have a clue what it may be and where to start looking?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
This might help with places to start looking.

There is a decent vid on the page that while not a Sporty, most systems share the same basic design (though there could be differences).

Mine throws a P0442 at me from time to time. Most of the time it is just because the guy that pumped my gas (We are not allowed to pump our own on Oregon....) didn't tighten the cap to/past 3 clicks.
Once though it was a plugged up EVAP canister filter (this also causes the fuel to back up in the filler and spray back out at you and kick off the pump, the tank vents while filling through the canister). On the 2001 they put the canister and filter under the rear bumper and it gets all plugged with mud. I need to re-locate it up in the frame above the tank as I do spend a decent amount of time in bumper deep slop.

So far though, when I got the codes I've never had a drivablity problem.... Just reset it, check the gas cap or replace the filter and keep going.
So you may have something else going on. But if you have a code I'd go over the EVAP system to start with, first make sure all the hoses are on tight and not cracking where they plug onto stuff. Then go from there.

Well I think I found the issue. Yesterday I replaced the purge valve (I think. I replaced the valve and hoses on the hose coming off of the intake maifold going to the charcoal canister)with the one off my parts car. After driving it a bit it didnt really seem to change anything. So I started thinking, when we replaced the engine we werent really sure which plug went to which O2 sensor, so we guessed. Well some of the issues I have been having could be related to that, so I switched the plugs around. I now have about 40 miles on it and the gas gauge hasnt dropped below the full mark yet. For the past month it would already be at 7/8ths of a tank by the time I got to work after filling up. So I think I fixed the issue. My neighbor "the Master Mechanic" said that couldnt be it because it wasnt throwing O2 codes. I dont think it would have because the O2 sensors were working just fine, they were just sending data from the wrong place in the exhaust system.

Sound right to anyone else? All I know is it seems to be running much better, power(well respectively) on acceleration, mpg's seems better though I wont know till I put more miles on.

Body Damage is Cool
I think if you want to figure out for sure which wire goes to which O2 sensor, you can just disconnect ONE of them and drive until you get a trouble code. The trouble code will say something like, no signal from O2 sensor number whatever. Then you'll know that the wire you left disconnected is for that O2 sensor.
