Has anyone heard if the Montero is returning to the USA in the near future. I have heard rumors that the Montero will return in 2014 but I have not seen anything concrete. Does anyone have more info on the return of the Montero?

I doubt 2014, MMNA is meeting about it this fall. It's likely going to be something luxo non rugged. Mitsubishi doesn't realize that in North America they are not viewed as a luxury brand like they are in some of the other countries. Mitsu did their best when they catered more to younger buyers and people who wanted to race their cars. I put in some suggestions, they'll probably scoff and file them with the other rubbish.

I have heard that they are bringing back a high MPG Mirage and they have increased their MPG on many other models as well. I am hoping this will allow them to reintroduce the Montero or a Japanese pickup. I think we will see a Montero soon. The cafÚ numbers just need to work.

There needs to be a different line that is ment for the real outdoors person, the montero used to be able to serve both types the mall cruisers and the person who is gonna put it to work. 2000 was the last year here for that( gen 2.5) the gen 3 went too far the other way and looks like thats the way the scale is gonna keep going in the next gen I don't want that i want a real truck bringing the l200 back would be awsome but to make that truck compete with the big boys they let take the market mitsu is gonna have to really pull out all stops to get people here to do more than just have a look at it.

1. gotta beat'em in price

2. gotta offer more factory bolt on options not packages i don't wanna have to buy the high option truck with all the bells whistles leather crap with the beat box stereo for a extra 10 grand just so i can get the locking diffs. I want the base model truck then add the diff to it for a small fee and have it installed at the dealer when i buy the truck.

3. Make some promo's that show that it is indeed a workhorse no just a hey lets go down the the ice cream shop and jam techno music on the way there.

4. as stated above offer things like lockers, maybe even roof top tents just things that appeal to the growing overland movement and offer it for price people are willing to pay there at the dealer not around the corner at pops 4wheel drive shop.

The things they could do are really endless and the idea's i listed above have all been done before or are even being done right now in other markets. So will mitsu just keep doing what they feel like because they can or will they come out guns blazing and show the world what they know how to do? I say they will just keep doing what they feel like and we are more than likely gonna get nothing. sucks

Of course Jeep is selling off-road tent trailers....And funny enough they sell more Jeeps then they can make. How about pre-loaded topo maps in the Sat Nav for the US? Still have not seen that yet. A ton they could do, but they would have to be committed. They were never committed, despite the money they blew. Interestingly enough the one item they listened to us on was commercials.....but it was too little, too late.(for the Sport) I assume we will see another Gen 2.5 crossover body on tinfoil with plastic...

Also, an honorable mention for the off-roading commercials we influenced, they had the highest Sport sales in the 6 months during and after.

If the version they bring in is the same as the 4th gen here in Australia.. and they allow the 3,2DID in you guys will love it. through in a 50mm lift and some bigger rubber they go everywhere. a solid performer. Touring only though.. youre not going to buy this to climb a 1m rock ledge.

One thing is for sure, unibody and IRS have to go. The theme of the roll out would need to include something about returning to Mitsubishi unique, tough and innovative roots. IRS and Unibody may be innovative, but for an off-road SUV its a nightmare. A solid front axle that rides well....that would be innovative.

The gen 4's are tough as nails man, the ifs and irs work together quite well. I know everyone hates it. at best I would go as far as to say a solid rear would suffice. the IFS is fine. its worked for how many years for them?

These wagons cross the simpsonn dessert and the canning stock route here in australia, spends months in teh kimberley. those are proving grounds.. and they take it in stride.

although I will agree with the unibody.. that is sorta gay. I perfer a frame to bolt stuff to.

But they're not really unibody, right? More like uni-frame? I've never seen one up close, but my understanding is that there are two subframes. Better than straight unibody.
