Saw my friend this morning. Told me he repositioned the timing belt yesterday (off by 2 teeth) and it fired right up. Evidently (to me), if the timing is off by a factor of X, the ecm must tell coil pack #3 to not fire. Nothing else happened or occurred other than the possible not needed replacement of the coil pack, transistor and ecm redo (bunch of money). A couple of days before, he had talked to a Mitsubishi mechanic who had a similar experience on a passenger car. Same symptoms. Couldn't get it going, redid the timing belt and voila. Strange but true. Anyway, just wanted to let you know and wanted to especially say thank you for your help. Thanks guys.
