My montero sits for weeks and after vacation a week back I jumped in it to take it for a spin like I usually do every few weeks. I noticed it didn't want to rev very high and it didn't sound the same. After driving the neighborhood I know something was wrong Because it couldn't get to 15 mph and sounded like it was bad gas or a bad pump. After draining the gas and putting almost 5 gallons of premium in I sat in my drive way reving it higher than idle to get new gas in the lines and my buddy looked under neath at smoke and seen a red hot exhaust. Thays where I'm at now

Red hot exhaust could be from a plugged cat or timing issue. Power loss could also be caused by both. Smoke is normal (just kidding). Smoke could be from bad VSS that was previously unnoticed because it exited the tailpipe. Perhaps if the cat is plugged, now the smoke is exiting at the gasket and is noticable.
Drop the exhaust and see if the power issue is eliminated.

Or it is running very rich, due to a bad ecu ect sensor, a atuck open injector, or a leaking injector. This can melt the cat and clog it, causing the loss of power. A clogged cat/blocked exhaust can be pressure checked. Drill a small hole in the pipe ahead of the cat and check the pressure. Google search how much pressure you will see with a clog - iirc, a pound or two is all it takes to decrease power.

Thays where I'm at now OR It's from the VSS leaking a lot of oil and then it began to burn in the CAT/Exhaust. Extra oil can cause CAT to fail -or so I heard. I had a chevy that went out of time once (distributer turned) and it caused hot CAT and cracked the Exhaust manifolds.
