I've replaced the shocks and that made a WORLD of difference bit still feels soft over obstacles. Are there any options out there??? I'm guessing I could add leaf helpers in the rear and maybe tweek the front torsion bars but looking for other possibilities.

Forget about the helper springs, they feel like crap. Find someone who sells Old Man Emu products, they sell brand new replacement springs. I got the 2" lift springs, they work great.

My father owns a NAPA so I just got whatever he could get quickly. Before shocks it rode like a boat. Now it's nice and smooth but just feels like the rear leaf springs in particular are really soft. I can stand on the rear bumper and I bet it drops a couple of inches. Front not nearly as "squishy" as the rear but being a torsion setup I fear there's not alot of choices up there.

Dad could also get Rancho 5000's and a KYB shocks (and I think he showed an air option for the rear also) but I couldn't really justify them on a car that I knew was coming down for an engine transplant.

Adjust the front torsion springs. I agree 2" rear OME. But if you decide to do leaf helpers instead, I have a brand new pair for sale: $40 shipped CONUS

I probably missed your post, but how do you have rear leaf springs on an '89? Mine has coils.

I have add-a-leafs on one of my SWB's and I don't think it rides like garbage myself. Of course I have KYB gas-a-just shocks, too, so it feels firm anyway. Corners like it's on rails, too.

If you get to cranking the front torsion bars, you'll want to trim the lower bump stops by half. It'll give you a bit more travel. And don't crank the bars so far that it rides on said bump stops, either. That'll get you your crappy ride quality right there.

My truck has KYB's on it that look like they've been on there for a looooong long time. My truck handles beautifully off-road and also corners like it's on rails despite needing a new ball joint and a couple of TRE's.
