I have add-a-leafs on one of my SWB's and I don't think it rides like garbage myself. Of course I have KYB gas-a-just shocks, too, so it feels firm anyway. Corners like it's on rails, too.

If you get to cranking the front torsion bars, you'll want to trim the lower bump stops by half. It'll give you a bit more travel. And don't crank the bars so far that it rides on said bump stops, either. That'll get you your crappy ride quality right there.
