BPT is a straight thread, NPT is tapered, and while it can be done, it's very hard to start and NPT male into a BPT female. Lightly tap it with an NPT tap, testing until you get a good start on the HPT fitting, and even after tapping, you can still use a BPT in the same hole with some teflon tape.

If you buy a half inch longer PS belt, you can use a street ell (m x f threads) in the location just behind the timing belt.
