spence used a fm146 or fm145 tranny behind his 4d55. I didn't look over the posted links above kina tired right now but shoot plh a pm he had a couple diesel 4cyl bellhousings 1 he used for his own diesel swap using the v5mt1 if that bolts to that engine it should bolt to the 2.6 as my self and others have bolted the km145 and km148(auto) from a 2.6 to a 2.3 diesel.

2.3d and 2.6gas had same bellhousing pattern. FM 145/6 are the same as km145, I'm pretty sure.

I still think the only route is vmt31 and a bellhousing from a euro market 4d56 diesel.

edit: I just thought of one other route. Use the 88-895spd guts from a starquest with the rear output shaft and transition case to tcase from a stock 5spd.

edit2: try Wild Bill Hincher who fabs custom bellhousings and adapter plates, courtesy of 87monty...

Per the mitsu tranny fsm, the v5m21 is a variant of the km145, the stock 2.6 5spd, both with a unremovable bellhousing. No joy there.

I've searched for a long, long time, and here's what I've found (disclaimer - I don't know everything).

I have never found the v5mt1 behind a 4d56 or 4g54. I found the v5m31 behind the 4d56 in Europe.

My 4d56 came with a V5MT1 behind it. It's a beef tranny, but Prob not good for street performance use. It's a "truck transmission" for sure.

Curtis, does it have a removable bellhousing? Do you know what your engine/tranny came from?

you can see right here eddy that it is a removable housing this tranny is not the km145 but the 4cyl diesel version v5mt1

I also pm'd plh and he is in thailand right now but he has the 4cyl bellhousings to bolt to the v5mt1. If i have to buy one and bolt it on tranny my self and make a video to show you i will eddie.

uright mewrong....

I did some more research in the manual tranny manual and found the same...

This means the v5mt1 can be bolted up to any 4g63, 4g64, or 2.6 or 4d55/6 diesel, a very nice upgrade for the km145 guys. Now what clutch and flywheel?

its alright eddie what would life be without challenge.

I wonder how the heavy diesel flywheel would be on a 2.6 or other wideblock 4cyls the diesel starter is a beast so many things to explore.
