Cool. I've seen a few scrunched ones up here who simply went to flatbeds. They never totally failed; just mangled up and never fell apart.

Meh, we gotta figure out how to get the DIM down on shipping though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

no no .. you order MORE , in BULK .. and "average" the shipping costs .. ( more = less cost per)(+ we have distributor discount)
we loose tons of sales simply cuz we have no distributor up there. Customers inquiring about buying 1 piece at a time is much to expensive for shipping

Well Corey, I can tell you that ANC and FAI are about 385 miles apart, no matter which section of highway you use, in case you needed some sense of proportion for our road system. Valdez to my place outside of FAI is 326 miles. IIRC, Whitehorse is about 10-12 hours, largely depending on weather and construction.

Communities down in SE/Aleutians are pretty much tied to marine and air deliveries, as is western AK (Nome/Kotz, etc).

So I guess the Q would be what bulk of requests out of which region are you getting?

yeah , I know ... it's a big place :)with low population #'s .
I do get quite a few calls , but shipping one piece at a time is killer freight , and I usually loose the deal because of freight cost .
MOST calls I get are usually from Fairbnks or Anchorage , so idealy this is where my distributor would be

I reckon your next step would be to figure if overland or barge/truck would be cheaper. Lynden Freight is in both AK/WA as well as Canada. Not sure where your freight lines go, but I know there's one from as far East as Houston TX and up the AlCan. Freight goes either to ANC or FAI at Tok once you cross the boundary. They also have marine services for barge/flatbed. Stuff that's barged is usually truck-ready coming onto the dock.

Out of Prince Rupert, would hit the Alaska Marine Highway (AMHS). Click on the sidebar schedule in the link above.

The reason I know about these guys is twofold; I used to ramp for Alaska Airlines here in FAI, and have used their freight forwarding out of Spokane to get larger vehicle parts over to Fife, WA to be barged up LTL. If it hits the trucks right, I get stuff in 7-10 days.
