Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ran a compression test and got between 125 and 145 for all Cyl. Cyl 1 had the half of the butterfly valve stuck in it which was removed before the test. Cyl 1 was at 135 which was right in the middle.

So, considering I have to move out of my house (Putting this one up for rent) I will need to put her back together for about 6 months. Thus I am only doing timing and the lower plenum. Once I get moved into my place (which has a shop) I will need to pull the heads and consider a rebuild. I was not able to find the rest of the butterfly valve and the previous owner drove it like this for over 5k miles. I hope it went into the exhaust!

Here are some pics:

Body Damage is Cool
With OK compression numbers like that, I'd say that there's no significant damage to the motor. If you had a bent valve from the foreign object ingestion, it would have shown up as a seriously low compression reading. If it really bothers you, go ahead and rebuild the engine, but I'd just complete the work that you've already got planned then drive it as-is.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
As of 9PM last night the Montero is up and running again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The timing belt was not too bad. It was a little harder than my Montero Sport but not nearly as difficult as an Evo. I have the spanner wrench for the tensioner pulley and in my opinion that makes everything much easier. I ended up setting the crank gear off one tooth so I could pull the slack out of the belt with the tensioner pulley and the spanner wrench. I rotated the engine around a few times by hand and I could pull out the pin and put it back in :-) . Perfect

I have no leaks and I can't detect any burning oil right now. So, if everything goes as plan I will be able to rip into this again in 6 months if needed.

Thanks for all the info and opinions. I appreciate it. Tomorrow, when the tire stores open I will be tossing on some 33's .

Found a rear locker problem but I will go into that later.

Need a Spot
Glad to hear there one more SR saved to ride the trails again! I picked up a 95 SR 2 owner 138k over the summer sitting on the side to a barn in OH. she is now back in PA spent the last month or so taking off the rust and scale from the frame and anywhere else I could find. Crank bolt replaced. Brakes all around taken apart and cleaned, new pads, need a abs ring/rotor front drivers side has a crack but its on for now. Will be doing the timing, water pump, valve seals, cam seals, and plugs in the spring. Putting a set of kyb monomax's all around and 32 or 33.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I dropped her off today for some new rubber. Then I figured out that the previous owner had 15x6 rims on it :-( .

Thus I decided I would start wit some 33x10.5 BFG's on some steel 15x7 wheels. I am hoping the offset won't be a problem but we will see.

Now I just need to put some more miles in and figure out what else needs to be replaced to build back the reliability. I replaced my Crank bolt during the timing belt job this weekend and the motor is running great! 228K and hoping to put another 100K or more on it!
