It can be done. The a/t transfer case does not have the detent on the shift rail that the m/t tcase has, so you have to take stuff apart and grind a notch in the rail to hold the shifter in neutral. The only other method is to unhook the driveshaft from the rear diff as above, except that I would leave the front end in the tcase and just tie the rear end to one side clear of the rear diff, otherwise you will leak tcase lube.
